Scottish referendum : the kingdom remains united

UK-Scotland

Early this morning the final votes cast in the Scottish referendum were counted and the result announced.

The Scots for various reasons opted not to be independent.

It was a democratic decision which will be respected by all. It may seem strange and difficult to understand that a nation refuses independence offered on a plate.

Yet this is a real lesson in democracy to all those around the world who opt to take decisions by using bullets rather than ballots.

  1. Perit,

naħseb wieħed irid iżomm f’moħħu li meta l-ġimgħa l-oħra l-YES kienu fuq quddiem it-tliet mexxejja tal-partiti ewlenin telgħu l-Iskozja sabiex jagħtu palata lill-kampanja tan-NO.

Nifhmu li b’45% tal-elettorat li jixtieq ikun indipendenti ma jistax wieħed jinjora lil dawn in-nies li ċertament jixirqilhom aktar awtonomija. Kif tkellem illum Cameron donnu ta x’ wieħed jifhem li donnu se jagħti forma ġdida lir-Renju Unit, li kif nifhimha jien xi ħaġa li tixbah lil stat federali li jinkludi l-Ingilterra, Wales, u l-Irlanda ta’ Fuq.

Demokrazija u ambient meddin

    • Giovann: hu tajjeb li m’aħniex taħt l-Ingliżi. Il-politiċi (jew politikanti kif issejħilhom int) qegħdin hemm għax jivvutawlhom in-nies. Meta n-nies tivvutalhom ifisser li qed taċċetta dak li jagħmlu. L-Inġliżi m’għandhomx x’jaqsmu ma dan: min jivvota ukoll irid jaċċetta r-responsabbilta’ ta’ dak li jagħmel.

  3. In order for the Scots to accept and vote for independence they had to believe that they could make it on their own. Whilst I have no doubt that in the long term they certainly could I also believe that in the immediate future they would have faced a very hard time. It seems the majority of Scots agreed with me and decided better the devil we know…..
