L-ilma tal-Coca Cola

Xi jiem ilu tħabbar illi l-Coca Cola Foundation tat donazzjoni ta’ €560,000 biex tgħin il-proġett Eko-Għawdex jieħu inizzjattiva dwar l-ilma.

Issa din hi bla dubju  inizzjattiva tajba u ta’ min ifaħħarha.

Imma dan m’huwiex biżżejjed.

Tajjeb li niftakru li l-Coca Cola f’Malta qed tagħmel użu mill-ilma tal-pjan għall-attivitajiet kummerċjali tagħha. Qed ittella’ l-ilma biex tbiegħu fil-fliexken kif ukoll biex tipproduċi luminati.

Jekk il-Coca Cola Foundation verament trid tgħin lil Malta timpenja ruħha iktar favur il-ħarisen tar-riżorsi tal-ilma jkun aħjar li flok id-donazzjoni iddur fuq il-kumpanija li tipproduċi l-Coca f’Malta (General Soft Drinks Co Ltd) u tgħidilha biex illum qabel għada tfittex tieqaf tagħmel użu mill-boreholes li għandha fil-fabbrika l-qadima ta’ Ħal-Qormi. Dawn għadhom qed jintużaw anke illum li l-Coca Cola marret f’fabbrika ġdida fil-Marsa.

Hemm ukoll konsiderazzjoni oħra. Waqt li l-Gvern qed itella’ u jniżżel biex jiddeċiedi jekk, kif u meta ser jagħlaq l-eluf ta’ boreholes li qed jixorbu l-ilma tal-pjan jiena naħseb li d-deċiżjoni li l-Gvern jaċċettata d-donazzjoni twassal messaġġ ħażin. Twassal il-messaġġ li l-Coca Cola hi iktar interessat fir-relazzjonijiet pubbliċi u l-ftaħir li qed tagħmel xi ħaġa favur l-ilma, imma meta tiġi għall-ħidma ta’ kuljum isserraħ rasha li f’Malta għandha l-boreholes. U l-Gvern kuntent joħroġ idu biex jilqa’ d-donazzjoni.

Meta l-Gvern jaċċetta dawn it-tip ta’ donazzjonijiet jagħti lil wieħed x’jifhem li l-ħbiberiji bejn il-politiċi u d-dinja tal-kummerċ tinfluwenza d-deċiżjonijiet, inkluż li dawn id-deċiżjonijiet ikunu posposti. Jekk u kif dan isir jibqa’ mistur fil-kurituri tal-poter fejn il-ħbieb iħokku dahar xulxin.

Anke għaqdiet ambjentali bħan-Nature Trust għandhom joqgħodu attenti qabel ma jiċċappsu ma inizzjattivi bħal dawn. Hemm bżonn li jifhmu li hemm min għandu kull interess li jinqeda bihom.

  1. Your action and zeal are commendable actions to safeguard a natural resource – but is what is the logic of continously only criticising one bottler / soft drink manufacturer. Is there a hidden agenda here or is this an illusion?

  2. Just as clarification – NTM is not in partnership with Coca Cola – we are the local reps of the Global water Programme Organisation – GWP. It is GWP who signed the agreement with coca cola int and malta was one of the countries selected by the coca cola int for a project on water conservation

    We have been asked by GWP to monitor the project for them in schools and oversee that the funds are spent in water conservation projects and handle the education in schools. In this way NTM will highlight water problem issues in Malta including illegal bore hole problems.

    NTM is the local representative of GWP and MIO which is the other partner (MIO is a network of Env NGos in the Med) Mediterranean Information Office on Environment, Culture and Sustainable Development.

    NTM is acting on behalf of GWP and MIO to educate the public on water issues

  3. naqbel li kumpaniji bhal ma semmejt m’ghandhomx itellghu ilma b’xejn mill-pjan pero ahjar il-gvern jimpennja ruhu u 1) inaddaf il-gibjuni li hawn fil-gnub tat-toroq biex jigbru l-ilma tax-xita u 2) jinhargu l-permessi mill-Mepa anke lil min mhux registrat bhala part time farmer biex jithaffru gwiebi sabiex jingabar l-ilma tax-xita
    minn toroq qalb il-kampanja!!!!

  4. Karmenu ghandu ragun. Mill-kummenti jidher li l-poplu taghna baqa bahnan. Iva polarizzat ukoll. Ghadna nahsbu b’qalbna u mhux b’mohhna. Sakemm nibqghu hekk, certu nies jibqghu jistghannew. Il-hofor tal-ilma ghandom potenzjal dwar fejn imorru l-voti. L-ilma jintilef waqt il-voti jingabru. Aktar ma l-ilma jintilef aktar jghollew it-tariffi. KIf tista ma taqbilx mieghek perit.

  5. Ghal mepa hu ehfeh li ittik permess ghal xi blokka kbira ta flats milli taghti permess lil min ghandu ghalqa biex ihaffer gibjun ghal-lilma tax-xita.

  6. Hemm bzonn ta’ aktar gharfien fuq dan is-suggett. Sfortunatament hafna minn nies ma jkunux jafu x’hemm vera wara ahbar. Dawn it-tip ta’ publicita’ irhisa hemm bzonn tigi esposta.
